A brave and resolute family man

Created by Andrew 2 years ago
i had not seen Richard for many years (since we were in short pants and playing at his mum’s house in Ipswich!) but he stayed in touch with his aunt Yolande and kept up with our family diaspora. I last caught up with him and Rose personally at a family event when he very kindly passed to me the old family Bible. When I heard from Yolande last year that Richard had become very ill, she was clearly deeply upset as he was really the only remaining family member from Suffolk that had stayed in touch with her over the years and she was very fond of him. When i called Richard to chat to him, i was deeply impressed with his fortitude and resolve. Knowing his time with his family was limited, he nontheless showed great compassion and determination to set everything in order. We had some good talks about our lives and our working conditions, and i was able to share a few jokes which gave him a laugh. He was a fantastic family man and his deep love for Rose and his offspring and grandkids shone through in his words and sentiments. He will be deeply missed and it was a privilege and an honour to have known him. The Latham family send their deepest condolences to the Haskells in their time of sorrow, and ask all who knew Richard to remember the good times, the fun and the laughs they had with a wonderful man, husband and father.
